I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States. Article II Section 1 of the US Constitution
Exercising an “abundance of caution,” in the words of White House Counsel Greg Craig, who advised the president to get sworn in a second time, President Obama took the oath of office for a second time on January 21, 2009 to obviate any any controversy that the president had not been sworn in using the literal words of the oath in the Constitution.
Such attention to detail--anyone this rigorous in following the letter of the Constitution surely will not attempt to circumvent any part of it. Or perhaps the Obama administration is sensitive to the controversy about whether President Obama even meets the Constitutional requirement for the President to be "a natural born Citizen" and seeks to distract?
Will President Obama be as meticulous about another part of his twice-affirmed oath to: "protect and defend the Constitution" when it comes to Article I Section 8 and the exclusive power of Congress "To declare War, grant Letters of Marque and Reprisal, and make Rules concerning Captures on Land and Water", or the second amendment "right of the people to keep and bear Arms"?
Or will he just "change" which country the US invades (pdf) and pretend the second amendment applies just to hunting (pdf)?
